Presented by Flake New To Together Retro? Check out the introduction to the club Soul Calibur V is upon us and thus it is time to return to the stage-of-history-of-the-soul-that-burns-~ or whatever excuse you need to pick up an awesome looking sword and start waving it at elaborately dressed warriors. Here at Together Retro, we figure the best way to welcome a new game of a classic series is to spend a month ignoring it in favor of an old game in said classic series. This month we will be playing Soul Calibur. Concept As a fighter, the ‘concept’ behind ... [Link] [Cache]

What if, instead of Max Payne 3, the next chapter in the saga was a retro throwback for old-ass computers like the ZX Spectrum or Commodore 64? You watch the video above and, at first, it doesn't look all that bad. Then you get to the actual "in-game footage" and realize you just dodged a bullet big time! God, I feel sorry for kids who had to play on one of those because they didn't have an NES. Not even that! A friggin' Master System would have been preferable! So I totally forgot about these finds! They were from about a whole month or so ago and were given to me by my brother. He found them in a trip to the thrift store so bought them for me. Isn't he nice? Anyways, here you have a NES Power Pad and an akklaim wireless controller. The controller is actually boxed but I couldn't find the box It's somewhere so I will have to take pics of that later! It's no secret that many of us here at 1UP reserve a special place in our hearts for The Simpsons. As various degrees of kids throughout the 80s and 90s, the show appealed to us as the very definition of smart, edgy, and refreshingly honest satire on all things Americana.A few years back, Features Admiral Bob Mackey wrote a plethora of blog entries on the series' sordid history in video games. Alongside that, Retronauts recently devoted an entire episode chronicling the highs there were a few and lows there were many of the video game adaptations. And from that discussion ... " This is a very odd sort of game. The idea of it is pretty simple. You’re an angel presumably Marlowe , and there some flowers you have to grow. How do you grow them? Well, there’s this sun kinda thing that moves around the edge of the screen. Pushing the A button makes it shoot a ray from wherever it is on the edge of the screen to wherever you’re standing. Sound easy? HAW. There’s these mean, nasty farmer guys trying to thwart you by tilling the ground, because for whatever reason you just can’t walk on tilled earth. ... [Link] [Cache]

It has been quite a while since I’ve done a product review, but since I’ve been offered some review copies of some Retro Gaming books, I thought I’d give the concept another whirl. Personally, I’m quite an information junkie – especially for topics I enjoy. My love for curating information is a big part of why I started this site in the first place. Compact Disc Protection Here's a computer artifact you don't see very often these days: a CD caddy. Yes it’s true. Capcom have revealed that Namco’s mascot Pac-Man and it’s own ex mascot Megaman will be making an appearance in Street Fighter X Tekken. A recent trailer was released, revealing the two classic retro characters in all their 3D glory. Megaman is particularly brilliant, as Capcom has cheekily modelled him on the naff old box art from the original U.S. NES games that were released in the Eighties. Pac-Man also looks pretty cool as well, although he appears to do most of his fighting in a large contraption. We’re not sure why it’s needed he has massive fists ... [Link] [Cache]

Our buddy Mega Man's been MIA since the unfortunate summer cancellation of Mega Man Legends 3, so you can safely bet the announcement of his upcoming appearance in the Sony-bound Street Fighter X Tekken SFXT caused some excitement -- especially in our office. But, as seen in the above image, this version of Mega Man isn't the one we've come to know and love; no, the minds at work behind this Capcom/Namco crossover have decided to pay "homage" to his bizarre portrayal on the box of the first NES Mega Man. Sure, it's a fine tribute to one of the ... [Link] [Cache]
