Particle Destroyer

Recently on Reddit, I discovered quite the artistically pleasing recreation of the old Breakout game. Those of you who are flash code fanatics can dig through all of its lines of code here, but since its code credits are in Japanese, I didn't know what else to call it other than Breakout Rainbow Pixel Sex. Thankfully, Brad Rice came to the rescue and translated the information to reveal that Particle Destroyer comes from Kayak Inc. Be warned, the first half minute is actually quite boring, but this is just to contrast the eye candy that awaits. Instead of a gradual ... [Link] [Cache]

Dragon's Lair Trilogy packs in the classics for Wii

Wanna hear a joke? Laserdiscs! Hah. I kill me. Seriously, though, maybe the best thing to come from the doomed technology was arguably the Dragon's Lair interactive videogames and porno flicks your parents couldn't really hide . With arcades dead in most parts of the country, and Laserdisc players buried in a pit somewhere, what's a retro gamer to do? Destineer has the answer. The publisher has announced that it will be releasing The Dragon's Lair Collection, a Wii compilation that features Dragon's Lair, Dragon's Lair 2: Time Warp, and Space Ace! all on one disc. The future of the ... [Link] [Cache]

Our gaming history is threatened by antiquity, copyright

The preservation of art so that it can be discovered by future generations is incredibly important. Videogames should be no exception and a new paper published in the International Journal of Digital Curation outlines the challenges our preferred form of entertainment faces in being protected. Painting a bleak picture, it suggests a not-distant future where some console games could be lost to time forever. Satisfactorily preserving a game is difficult. In order to present the exact experience as designed, games really need to be run on their original hardware. As any retro fan will tell you, it's just better that ... [Link] [Cache]

Blackhand Edition

I don't think a movie, in the history of film has ever made quite the impact that The Godfather did. It is not only the perfect gangster movie of all time, it is a perfect movie in itself. Countless Top 100's have it as its number one, and I have to agree. From my first sitting of this movie I have always had a weird since of pride about my Sicilian heritage. So the movie is perfect, but is the game, that follows a original story line set in the Godfather world perfect? Lets find out.Gameplay 7 out of 10 ... [Link] [Cache]

TMNT Arcade Game

If you want to ruin your night with some really bad and annoying PC gaming then TMNT for the PC is your answer! This game is bad, sadly it should have been better but it felt like the game was rushed so many bugs were left unnoticed. The music of the game makes you want to hang yourself at times as it never changes and the bugs all over the game can help you as much as destroy your chances of beating the game. Overall, the game is murder! Try it out for a good laugh or two though.... [Link] [Cache]

OverKill - The Six Planet Mega-Blast

An epic game from the past, Overkill had a lot to give for with their intense gameplay and facinating difficulty. The game is your typical shooter that makes you want to come back for more! Really, there are some shooters out there with this ability but this one back in the day Made me want to come back and replay it over and over. It's just a lot of fun and brings back a lot of memories. This is one of the games that doesn't do anything fancy but yet still makes the experience fun. [Link] [Cache]

Micro Man

One of the most intriguing titles from the past is surely Micro Man. This game was a platformer like very few in its time. Originally released for the Windows 3.x system, Micro Man took advantage of many aspects to make itself look good. As you may know many of the games back then ran on DOS so Micro Man was very unique since it ran on a windows box made ready to play. Not many games were like this and not many were this good. The game is something else so try it out! [Link] [Cache]

Apple Panic

Here is a very interesting game. This game mostly reminds me of lode runner on the NES. Your goal is to dig holes in order for the monsters to fall in sounds familiar? But it gets good after this. You have to hit the enemies so that they stay in the whole and bury them like the trash they are. Furthermore, you will need to dig up a hole completely or the enemy won't get trapped inside. I hope you can check this fun little game out. [Link] [Cache]

Castles II - Siege and Conquest

Here is another one of those sneazy strategy games. This is another one of those conquer the other country while getting rich and building an empire games. It's a lot of fun, the music is not bad as well, and of course the game play keeps you wanting to come back for more. It's an awesome game overall. [Link] [Cache]

Warcraft

The original warcraft proved to be one of the more interesting games of its day. Nonetheless, the franchise would evolve over the years to become what is now a very addicting online game with millions of subscribers. There is a reason for this, the game is just so good wether offline or online game is available, I can still have lots of hours of fun with the original one. This is a highly recommended title for sure. [Link] [Cache]

ESRB lists Fatal Labyrinth for PS3 and Xbox 360

The early Sega Genesis roguelike Fatal Labyrinth was released on PC download services last week, but Sega doesn't appear to be done re-releasing it yet. The ESRB listing for the game shows, in addition to its existing PC and Wii Virtual Console releases, plans for Mac, PS3, and Xbox 360 versions of the game. Fatal Labyrinth is actually already available on PS3 and Xbox, as part of Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, but a separate ESRB listing for those platforms suggests a standalone downloadable release, like those given to games like Gunstar Heroes, Sonic & Knuckles, and Phantasy Star II. Vote for the Next Featured Fan Art Gallery

It’s been a while since we posted an entry in our featured video game fan art series. However, I would like to features some additional pieces, but thought I would ask the wonderful Racketboy community which series or characters they would like to see highlighted. Now, I realize some large franchises aren’t featured in this poll or been highlighted previously, but I’d like to focus on a few options at this time I asked to community earlier for nominations . Virtual Boy demakes are red, black and awesome

In the world of gaming-consoles-that-I-don't-dream-g~ the Virtual Boy is pretty much at the top of the list. Or so I thought, until these clever Virtual Boy demakes popped up over at Pixel Joint in honor of the 15th anniversary of the console's Japanese launch. I think the Virtual Boy version of Metroid Prime is by far my favorite of the entries, but the Monkey Island one is full-on cool, as well. I would have dug the Mega Man on VB as well; 3D robot masters could get seriously epic. It's too bad the failure of the Virtual Boy will mean ... [Link] [Cache]

GameCity Nights

pic via GameCity’s flickr stream So, yesterday myself, Minion and ToreSupra wandered down to GameCity Nights to see what it’s all about. I was, unfortunately, a bit of a mess by the time I rolled up there. Generally, I don’t travel well anyway as the missus will reassure you but between a week with a distinct lack of sleep, a 6 hour coach journey where the coach turns up incredibly late and then toddling as fast as my little legs can take me to Antenna, guided ably by Mrs Bob on the phone for directions I certainly wasn’t even remotely ...
