operation: Call of Duty 4

When I found out I had a computer that could handle Call of Duty 4 (said to be the best game of 2007) I had to get my hands on a copy. I’ve been playing it for three weeks and each week I begin to enjoy it more.

First Thought
Wasn’t so positive, at first it felt like I was playing just another Medal of Honor or Call of Duty, WW2 FPS. But as the weeks went by I have really gained a lot more respect for CoD4’s multiplayer game mechanics. Usually with a game like this you can tell that the game developer spent so much time and focus on the singleplayer that the multiplayer was just slapped together and it is usually left up to the community to fix it.

Maps
As I play CoD4 I really feel as if they put a lot of effort into the multiplayer component of this game. Each map has it’s own gameplay style. On one map it might a big wide-open space filled with chaos, on another map your going through apartment buildings and running through streets and another map you’re on a ship with only some crates to protect you from snipers. Each map has completely different feel than the next and this is definitely one thing that stands out in this game.

Classes
The basic classes are very standard. You have your basic shoot-em-up class, your sniper class, your special ops class… but what really makes this game different is you can create your own custom classes. This is definitely another selling point for the amazing multiplayer mechanics of this game. Since each map has a different gameplay style it is really nice to make custom classes to match with those styles. One map a long range sniper with a stronger health meter might be a good role to play while on another map it might be best to stick with a close range shotgun with stronger bullet penetration.

Final Tought
Though many of you may not have the hardware to play this game, I would definitely recommend picking this up as soon as you do. It is very rare that a games multiplayer mechanics match that of its singleplayer component.
