Even today NBA Jam is super fun and playing with an outdated roster adds to the enjoyment. Coincidently EA Sports is developing a new NBA Jam title for the Wii. When I heard this I was both excited and disappointed. I own a Wii so getting this game wont be a problem but at the same time I think i’d rather play it on my Xbox 360 over Live and I have some friends who don’t have a Wii and wish they could download it over the PS3 Network. Before even seeing any screenshots, reading previews or watching any videos the title already lost some points for not releasing it on other platforms. I’m hoping theirs enough demand that they eventually port it to the other major systems and maybe even the Nintendo DS.

In the last week they’ve released the trailer and it looks like they’ve tried to stick to the original formula; simple controls, two on two, all out basketball war! Have a look for yourself;

I put in a good two hours lastnight and here are my initial reactions.

First off the whole feeling of the game screams arcade. From the way the menu feels to the online play. The coolest feature is to allow other players to challenge you while you’re playing single player arcade mode. This is like when you are at an arcade and another player walks up while you’re playing and puts in a quarter. This really adds to the whole arcade feel.

I haven’t had this great of an arcade experience from home since the golden area of the dreamcast. I highly recommend this game to anyone who has been a fan of the series or anyone interested in competitive fighting games in general.

Coming from a PC gaming background it’s hard to except the fact that console gaming is taking over. After playing; Bad Company, Halo 3 and Unreal Tournament 3 on Xbox Live it is clear that PC still has the advantage when it comes to FPS control. First Person Shooters require quick reaction times and a steady hand but with a controller it requires a steady thumb, which I find to be much more difficult.

Overall my experience so far has been good and I look forward to playing more games.
